About Sheikhpura

A small but historic district in Bihar's Munger division — carved out on its own, rich in legacy.

A Short History

Local legend traces Sheikhpura's founding to Hazrat Makhdum Shah Shoeb, a Sufi saint believed to have settled here roughly six centuries ago, clearing dense forest to establish the town. The region later became an important administrative centre under the Pallavas, and the well-known Dal Kuan was built during the rule of Sher Shah Suri.

Sheikhpura was carved out as a separate district from Munger on 31 July 1994. It has given Bihar notable figures, including the state's first Chief Minister, Dr. Shree Krishna Singh, along with several freedom fighters and public leaders.

Magahi and Hindi are widely spoken across the district, alongside Urdu in parts of the town.
